We very much welcome volunteers at Swan Lifeline, their input to the day to day running of the site and the care of swans is absolutely invaluable.

We would love to hear from you if you a few hours or a day to spare a week or a couple of hours a month.

We have an enthusiastic team who cover a wide variety of tasks including preparing food, cleaning buckets and troughs and hosing down pens.

Our volunteers will receive training from our staff in swan handling, but if you do not want to be involved so closely with swans there are plenty of other jobs available that need to be done.

Volunteers usually start with feeding and cleaning pens, both inside and outside. If they feel confident to progress to swan handling and rescuing there is the opportunity to do so.
Many of our volunteers have started like this but have become competent in all aspects of our work and are very much involved in the running of the site.

We are grateful to volunteers who would like to be involved with our large garden, cleaning the offices, administration work, light or heavy building work and general maintenance.

We ask all volunteers to sign a form explaining what is entailed and covering all aspects of health and safety and insurance details.

Volunteers are asked to sign in and out on every visit and will be given a locker in the office for valuables.

We offer refreshments, use of a microwave and toilet facilities but would suggest that if you are there over lunchtime you bring yourself something to eat.

Unfortunately we are unable to offer volunteering roles to under 16’s unless accompanied by an adult.

Working with swans is a very rewarding job, they are rarely aggressive and are all individuals with personalities of their own.

So please help us help the swans if you can.

You are welcome to pop in for a chat if you are interested so please contact us at: enquiries@swanlifeline.org.uk
