Cuckoo Weir island is a 7 acre site in the Thames where we have 10 outdoor pens that can house up to 180 swans. Each pen contains a pond that has constant flow of river water.
We have a newly refurbished intensive care unit which has 5 heated indoor pens for the most poorly swans, a treatment room, specialist bath, laundry room and office which can all be closely monitored.
Outside we have the next stage of recovery with a series of 9 enclosed units that can house both swans and cygnets.
We are hoping to extend our intensive care unit and build a hydrotherapy pool for more comprehensive treatment.
Outdoor pens each with a pond and a sheltered feed area.
They are constructed from heavy duty fencing to deter rats, mink and foxes. The pens are covered with netting to minimise access by ducks and other birds.
The enclosures have wooden shelters to offer protection from the sun and for those birds who require shelter at night or those lacking waterproofing.
An Intensive care unit where they can be monitored closely and given daily medicines/treatment. Each unit has an infrared heat lamp for those that require extra support.
Treatment room fully equipped with medical supplies for after care
